February Scholar In Residence Shabbat with Ruth Franklin
February 1 | 8:45 am - 1:00 pm
Join us on Saturday, February 1st for our February Scholar In Residence Shabbat featuring award-winning author and critic, Ruth Franklin.
Ruth looks forward to sharing a Dvar Torah during the Shabbat service and leading a 30-minute discussion after Kiddush focused on her forthcoming book, The Many Lives of Anne Frank.
The Many Lives of Anne Frank is a fresh, deeply researched biography exploring Anne Frank’s journey from teenager to icon. Franklin examines Anne’s life in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam, the evolution of her diary, and its lasting relevance. Franklin restores Anne’s humanity and complexity while shedding light on the controversial adaptations of the diary for stage and screen and the recent political exploitation of her image. This timely work delves into the ways Anne has been understood and misunderstood, offering new perspectives on her life and legacy.
Ruth Franklin’s earlier works include Shirley Jackson: A Rather Haunted Life, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award, and A Thousand Darkness’s: Lies and Truth in Holocaust Fiction. Her pieces have also appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, and more.
