About the Artist

Baltimore-based Sam Farthing brings a stunning Gypsy Jazz concert to the Katz Music Center at MMAE. A virtuosic young guitarist and songwriter who has been playing since the age of ten. His specialty is Jazz Manouche, the Django Reinhardt-inspired Gypsy Jazz tradition of 1930’s Paris. Sam has performed at festivals across the U.S. and Europe, bringing his dazzling playing to audiences around the world.

About The Concert

Jazz Manouche originated with the Sinti people, a Romani community in France whose musicians shaped the sound of Parisian nightlife. During the Nazi era, the Sinti were persecuted alongside their Jewish neighbors — a history often overshadowed yet deeply connected to the music.

Sam brings this powerful history to life through both performance and storytelling. This beautiful Gypsy jazz concert in Baltimore will blend brilliant musicianship with rich historical context, offering a moving experience that honors the resilience and creativity of the Sinti tradition.
